The Hinds County Long-Term Disaster Committee, social services, faith-based organizations, housing agencies, and others address the unmet needs of families and individuals of residents of Hinds County, Mississippi, in response to county, state, or federally declared disasters.
The Hinds County LTDRC is not really a program of the MUL, but it is housed under the umbrella of the United Way of the Capital Area, which serves as the fiscal agent for the organization. The Hinds County LTDRC reports to the Hinds County Board of Supervisors. MUL formed and led this LTRC. The Mississippi Urban League provides disaster support across the state, as our budget will allow. This would likely be better for explaining our work in this area:
A top priority for the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is building a new “Culture of Preparedness,” to ensure that every Mississippian is prepared for any type of disaster, whether natural or man-made. Preparedness begins with individuals and families, but a key component is for communities to come together and help one another prepare.
Take steps to protect your home, family, and financial security throughout the year, and take extra precautions when flooding is predicted in your area.
